Look 3: Scandi Pretty

HOW WE DID IT:

  • We used the same wallpaper from episode 1 fromThe Wall Sticker Company. This shows you the versatility of the wallpaper and how it can go either masculine or feminine.
  • We also borrowed the rug and TV Consoles from episode 2. The sisal rug is perfect for this style and the double white TV console were the perfcet combination for this pretty look.
  • The warm toned mixed metals were used throughout. Gold side table, touch lamp and floor lamp from Coco and Crème and coffee table from interior secrets where the perfect combination of mixing metals.
  • We have mixed lots of textures in the room with metals, blush leather, weeds, and soft sheepskins. This creates a homely warm layered feel.
  • We love cushions and used plenty on this couch! A mixed collection from Kate and Kate home and Coco and crème, the more cushions the better for this look. We also used cushions to soften up the Barnaby Lane leather chair.
  • The main piece of artwork in this space is an Amelia Anderson from Southwood Home. It is large and framed without glass, which is perfect for leaning.
  • The leaning mirror in the corner balanced out the room and reflected back the pretty pink artwork and also the greenery directly in front of out. This makes that room feel bigger.
  • Once again, books are so important when styling, we focused on softer covers, plain blacks and whites, soft greys, nudes, and fashion books.
  • We have combined two different seats to add some more personality to the space and so it doesn’t all feel too matchy matchy.
  • The clock balances that space on the back wall as does the Ivy Muse stand balance the space next to the console.
  • To add to finishing touches we added some fresh protea flowers to the room.

EPISODE 2 realestate.com.au - BEACHY KEEN

The second in our series with realestate.com.au- #1room3ways. Here's our beach inspired look.

HOW WE DID IT:
  • The removable wallpaper from The Wall Sticker Company was key to this look and feel. We only decided to do one wall as to not over power the small space. The room actually looked much bugger once the wallpaper was up.
  • A large 2m x 3m from Ikea is the anchor to the room and softens up the hard flooring. It’s a sisal look and is perfect for a beach inspired room.
  • We swapped the couch around and used the backdrop of the wallpaper as the main “Artwork” in the room.
  • We then broke up the wall by using a framed piece from Frank Prints. It was ok that it was a dark oak frame as you can see the colours in the wallpaper allowed for it.
  • One of our favourite tips for rentals is shelving! The leaning shelf we used purchased from Zanui is perfect to house your homely nick nacks and can be taken with you to any home you move to.
  • We created the TV zone with 2 x Ikea PS cabinets, which made the room feel longer, and lent a piece of Artwork from The Artwork Stylist on the console. Leaning Artwork is a great tip for rentals.
  • The Interior secrets chair was the perfect softness of blondes and grey for our look. We added Escape to Paradise cushion to mimic the wallpaper on the other side of the room.
  • On the couch we have used one of our favourite cushions of the moment. The circle linen cushion from Kate and Kate home.
  • The Family Love Tree baskets where the perfect styling props for the room and sit neatly beside the occasional chair.
  • The final balancer for the walls was the tapestry hanger from 123 home, which you will see created another layer to the room.
  • Palms are a must in a beacy vibe, however they don’t need to be overpowering and you can play with different plants also, like the cactus from Mitre 10.

TOP STYLING TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL BEACHY KEEN LOOK:

  • Blonde woods work best as the mimic sand
  • Don’t be afraid to be bold with your colours in cushions and walls, however keep your sofa neutral.
  • Textures are important, like the sisal rug, tapestry wall hanging, the woven baskets, and the scattered plants.
  • Add and remove items when it’s getting too busy for your eyes, you will see when it’s getting too much, like when we removed the plant from as Coco Chanel said “Once you've dressed, and before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take at least one thing off.” Same thing applies to interiors.

1 ROOM 3 WAYS- The Real Estate Stylist Hosts for realestate.com.au

EPISODE 1- MAN CAVE

Here is episode 1 of our project with realestate.com.au. We have been charged with the challenge of turning 1 space into three different looks using only online retailers, reasonable prices and all furniture and art needed to be suitable for rental properties. Head to http://www.realestate.com.au/blog/1-room-3-ways-man-cave to find out more and also look through their amazing content! Below you will find a further run down.

HOW WE ACHIEVED A MAN CAVE LOOK:

  • We used the same couch in all 3 spaces as we thought it only viable that if someone wants to change their living room they can’t change their couch each time. This one was from Ikea.
  • We added a Pony Rider throw and cushions to darken up the sofa so it wasn’t to bright and white in the room. We also added a smaller hide from 123 Home for extra layering.
  • We used 2 x broom hooks from 3M and stuck up an Ikea rod and sheers to soften the lighting and block out the neighbour’s undies. Instant effect, try it!
  • We used 2 rugs on the floor a cowhide and a Stockholm stripped rug from Ikea, to add an extra layer and a more masculine feel. (Don’t forget the trick of turning your rug corners under in the opposite direction so they don’t curl up)
  • Our favourite room changer, which you will see in all 3 episodes, is our removable wallpaper from The Wall Sticker Company. We went with a soft versatile geometric shape that could go any style if you wanted to mix it up down the track.
  • We chose dark woods for our main wood pallet, which you will see in the coffee table and console fromInterior Secrets and theFrank Print Frame.
  • The main artwork above the couch is a beach towel hung up with sticky hooks, we wouldn’t recommend just any old beach towel, but this one from Pony Rider was slick enough to add a relaxed vibe as opposed to a ridged piece of artwork.
  • The floor lamp is a gold number from Coco and Crème which adds a softness to the look as opposed to having something black and harsh or silver which is cold.
  • The sexy black sling chair from Barnaby Lane, was our nod to black leather that all man caves feel like they need. This is the more grown up version and adds sophistication.
  • Further touch to leather we used a stunning round poof from by Hunting for George
  • We used a hanging stand from Capra Designs and a Staghorn bought from the local gardens market, rather then using a regular potted floor plant.
  • The floor length mirror from ikea makes the space feel larger and reflects back the wallpaper, making for another piece of artwork. Leaning mirrors in small rental apartments-priceless.
  • Other added styling props included:

Black and white books - Hunting for George
Side table- Barnaby Lane
Greenery from Mitre 10 Richmond
Rams scull-Typo
Leaning Print- Blacklist
Folded Throw- Kate and Kate Home
Guitar- Amy’s husbands!

TOP STYLING TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL MAN CAVE LOOK:
  • Balance between hard fabrics and soft. Our strong black leather chair and ottoman are balanced with a cushion and soft throw beside it.
  • Darker woods work best with this style, stay away from silvers and cold metals.
  • Add some of you in the property; we added the guitar for some personality. Black and white prints look amazing and bold in a masculine vibe, add some of your own black and white pics of your travels, family, frame them in a dark oak frame and sticky them to wall.
  • Layering, it’s all about layering.
